Fresh off a strong freshman season at Southeastern Baptist College, outfielder
Austen Shirley is making waves this summer with the Forestbrook Mallards,a collegiate team based in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
A 2024 graduate of Quitman High School (MS), Shirley immediately became a key contributor for the Chargers, helping lead the program to a successful season and a postseason run at the NCCAA South Regional Tournament.
This summer, Shirley took his talents to the Beach Collegiate Baseball League (BCBL), where he's been a standout for the Mallards—showcasing his athleticism, defensive instincts, and consistent bat.
About the Forestbrook Mallards
The Forestbrook Mallards are a summer collegiate team that competes in the BCBL, attracting top talent from across the Southeast. The program focuses on development, exposure, and elite competition.
Leading the charge this summer is Coach Mark Davis, a Mississippi native and baseball veteran.
Coach Spotlight: Mark Davis
Mark Davis, a Stonewall, Mississippi native, brings a wealth of experience to the Mallards program. A former William Carey University standout, Davis pitched at the collegiate level before moving on to independent professional baseball.
Following his playing career, Davis became a respected high school coach in Mississippi, holding positions at Perry Central High School and with the Meridian Public School District. He now leads the Mallards with a strong emphasis on player development, discipline, and accountability.
A Summer of Growth
Shirley has used this summer as a platform for development, facing elite players from across the country and working on his overall approach. He's earned praise for his consistency and coachability.
As the Mallards push for a strong finish to their summer season, Shirley continues to be a reliable presence in the lineup and a key figure in their success.
What's Next
Shirley will return to Southeastern Baptist College this fall with valuable experience, sharper tools, and an expanded understanding of the game. Coaches at SBC are excited about his growth and what it means for the 2026 season.
