Laurel, MS – Southeastern Baptist College Baseball is proud to announce the signing of Phoenix "Shooter" Holyfield, a dynamic utility player from Millry High School in Millry, Alabama. Known for his versatile athleticism and leadership on and off the field, Holyfield will be joining the Chargers as part of the incoming 2025 class.
Holyfield began his varsity baseball journey in the 8th grade, starting as a right fielder with additional appearances behind the plate. By 9th grade, he had cemented his place as a standout left fielder, earning All-County Outfield, All-State Honorable Mention, MHS Outfield Award, and the coveted MVP award. His 10th grade season saw him dominate as the team's starting center fielder, again earning All-County Outfield honors.
In his junior year, Holyfield showcased his adaptability by transitioning to the infield, logging time at shortstop, second base, third base, and even pitching when called upon. His efforts earned him All-County Infield recognition and the Outstanding Team Sportsmanship award.
Beyond the high school diamond, Shooter played travel / showcase ball for the Golden Spikes, continuing his role as a dependable utility player and team leader.
Off the field, Holyfield brings the same level of discipline and excellence, holding a 3.3 GPA, achieving A/B Honor Roll, and remaining actively involved in his school, church, and local community.
"Shooter is the kind of player every coach hopes to have — coachable, versatile, and a leader by example. His ability to play anywhere on the field, combined with his character off of it, makes him a perfect fit for Charger Baseball," said SBC Coach Lee Rich
With his faith and work ethic as his foundation, Holyfield is ready to take on the challenges of collegiate baseball. "I'm blessed to be able to continue my dream of playing ball at the next level with the Chargers. God has truly blessed me," said Holyfield.
