Hot Springs, Arkansas – The Chargers took to the road to face the Champion Christian College Tigers in a challenging match-up that tested their resilience from start to finish. The game tipped off with the Chargers making an early statement, thanks to Kylee Madden's quick bucket that set the tone. Madden showcased her offensive prowess with 5 points in the opening quarter, complemented by Sarahia Hurd's strong contribution of 6 points. The Chargers started the game shooting an impressive 57%, displaying confidence on the floor.
However, turnovers would soon become the Chargers' Achilles' heel, with nine giveaways in the first quarter alone under the relentless high-pressure defense of the Tigers. By the end of the quarter, the Chargers trailed 17-33, struggling to keep pace with the Tigers' intensity.
In the second quarter, the Chargers made strides on the defensive end, successfully keeping Champion Christian off the offensive glass. Despite maintaining a solid pace on offense, the recurring turnovers continued to hinder their progress. The halftime whistle saw the Chargers facing a significant 28-point deficit.
Throughout the first half, Madden and Hurd led the Chargers' scoring efforts, while Sydney Coward, Sanaa Holmes, and Laura Cobb added valuable points to round out the offensive push. The third quarter proved to be a rough patch, with the Chargers shooting just 2-16 from the field and going 0-4 from beyond the arc.
Sydney Coward would spark a spirited comeback in the fourth quarter, lighting up the scoreboard with 14 of her 19 total points, setting a new career-high. Coward finished the game shooting 5-10 from the field and an impressive 4-9 from three-point range. Her efforts, combined with strong performances from Madden and Holmes on the boards, kept the Chargers fighting until the final buzzer. Madden capped off her night with a double-double, recording 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Holmes narrowly missed a double-double of her own with 8 points and 10 rebounds.
Despite their best efforts in the fourth quarter, the Chargers ultimately fell short, concluding the game with a final score of 63-106. The Chargers will look to bounce back as they stay in Hot Springs for their next match-up against Randall University. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Champion Christian College's gym.
