Returning home, the Southeastern Baptist College Chargers faced a tough match-up against the Blue Mountain Christian University Toppers. The game initially began on even footing with a 4-4 tie, but turnovers quickly became the story of the night for the Chargers. Struggling to control possession, SBC turned the ball over 19 times in the first half alone, setting a challenging pace for the team early on.
First Half Recap
The first quarter proved decisive, as the Toppers capitalized on Charger turnovers to pull ahead 23-7 by the end of the quarter. While SBC's offense showed flashes of potential in the second quarter, Blue Mountain continued to dominate through hustle plays and strong defensive pressure, pushing their halftime lead to 47-19.
Freshman post player Laura Cobb emerged as a standout for the Chargers, putting up a resilient performance with 7 points and 8 rebounds by halftime. She finished the game with her first double-double of the season, tallying 14 points and 13 rebounds. Other scorers at the half included Sydney Coward with 5 points, Kylee Madden with 3, Sarahia Hurd with 2, and Sanaa Holmes with 2.
Second Half Recap
The Chargers continued to struggle offensively, shooting just 27% from the field and 19% from three-point range. Coward led the way in scoring, finishing with 18 points, including four triples, and grabbed 4 rebounds. Madden also reached double digits, adding 10 points to the tally. Additionally, Breyonce' Jim contributed with 3 steals and 3 assists, showing her presence on both ends of the court.
Despite the loss, the Chargers showcased glimpses of potential, with strong individual performances.
The Chargers now hit the road to face Champion Christian College on Friday at 5:00 p.m., followed by a Saturday match-up against Randall University at 1:00 p.m. Both games will take place in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
