The Southeastern Baptist College Women's Basketball team faced a challenging match-up against the Tigers of Stillman College. Despite a spirited effort, the Chargers came up short, falling 78-34.
The game opened with a tough first quarter for the Chargers, as cold shooting and turnovers hindered their offensive rhythm. The team managed just five points on 1-of-8 shooting from the field, while the Tigers capitalized to take an 18-5 lead after the first 10 minutes.
In the second quarter, the Chargers found a bit more success offensively, improving their shooting percentage to 35%. However, the Tigers' relentless defense and transition game proved too much, as Southeastern Baptist entered the halftime break trailing 46-17.
Turnovers and second-chance opportunities continued to plague the Chargers throughout the second half. While the offense struggled in the third quarter, producing only six points, the team rallied for its best effort in the fourth quarter. The final frame featured a competitive 14-11 score line in favor of the Tigers.
Despite the loss, the Chargers saw solid contributions from their post players, who combined for 30 points and 22 rebounds. Laura Cobb led the effort with 12 points and 9 rebounds, while Sarahia Hurd added 12 points and 8 rebounds. Mackenzie McGuirt made her season debut, coming off the bench to chip in six points and five rebounds in limited minutes. Breyonce' Jim rounded out the scoring with four points and six boards.
The Chargers will look to bounce back on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, as part of a home doubleheader with the SBC Men's Basketball team. Southeastern Baptist College will host Champion Christian College, with the women's game tipping off at 3:00 p.m., followed by the men's game.
